The ESPN Trade Machine currently does not allow Tyson Chandler to be traded yet, so I could not add him to be traded to the Magic. Once included to the deal, the trade would go through, financially.
I also could not include draft picks, but the Rockets would also be trading their 2012 First-Round pick to the Knicks that they received from the Knicks originally.
It’s a blockbuster, a huge one at that, but it helps each and every single team.
Why the Rockets do it?
This is what Daryl Morey does. Kevin Martin & Luis Scola are his top trade assets, as shown during the vetoed Pau Gasol trade. In return, we finally get the “superstar” we’ve been searching for since the post-TMac & Yao era ended. Courtney Lee, Patrick Patterson and Marcus Morris will finally get quality starter minutes to develop into serviceable and reliable players that their potential shows. We will also get an up and coming star in Iman Shumpert to back up Courtney Lee at the 2 spot. Rockets will be trading the first round pick back to the Knicks also, because it is losing value with every game the Knicks win.
Why do the Magic do it?
They replace one superstar big man in Dwight Howard with two all-star big men in Amare Stoudemire & Tyson Chandler. They also shed Hedo’s enormous contract and receive a young talent in Landry Fields to replace him. Dwight clearly does not want to be in Orlando anymore. Let him move on, and bring in TWO serviceable big men to replace him, as opposed to the ONE in Brook Lopez the Nets are offering, or Andrew Bynum from the Lakers.
Why do the Knicks do it?
Remember how well Joe Johnson and Quentin Richardson thrived in D’Antoni’s offense in Phoenix? Well, imagine an even better shooter in Kevin Martin in it. And another great shooter in Hedo Turkoglu. And a great post-midrange player in Luis Scola. And of course, Dwight Howard, who is vastly more athletic than Amare ever was in Phoenix. Knicks lose some valuable young talent in Shumpert & Fields, but with a team like this, they will be in a win-now mode.
Here’s what each team would look like, post-trade.
Houston Rockets:
PG: Kyle Lowry, Goran Dragic, Jonny Flynn
SG: Courtney Lee, Iman Shumpert, Terrence Williams
SF: Carmelo Anthony, Chandler Parsons, Chase Budinger
PF: Patrick Patterson, Marcus Morris, Jordan Hill
C: Samuel Dalembert, Greg Smith
Orlando Magic:
PG: Jameer Nelson, Chris Duhon
SG: Jason Richardson, JJ Redick
SF: Landry Fields, Quentin Richardson
PF: Amare Stoudemire, Glen Davis
C: Tyson Chandler, Ryan Anderson
New York Knicks:
PG: Jeremy Lin, Baron Davis
SG: Kevin Martin, J.R. Smith
SF: Hedo Turkoglu, Bill Walker
PF: Luis Scola, Jared Jeffries
C: Dwight Howard

My thoughts on Pau to the Rockets

Amazing work Daryl Morey.

It’s still just in discussions, but if we pull this off… amazing.

We’re getting Pau Gasol, one of the premier big men in the league. I don’t even care if he’s soft, he’s a 7 footer with a soft touch. I’ve always viewed him as just a slightly shorter and a Spanish version of Yao Ming.

We acquired Luis Scola from the Spurs for Spannoulis. Wut. Who? Exactly.

We acquired Kevin Martin with Carl Landry and the dead corpse of Tracy McGrady, while also acquiring a hell of a lot of draft picks from the Knicks.

And we’ve turned those two players into the two 20PPG guys for our team last season. They’re both aging, and they’re the only two with any value on our roster. It’s the perfect time to let them go, and especially for Pau Gasol? Fuck yeah.

So starters for this season?

We’d have Kyle Lowry at the point. I guarantee, Lowry will be a top 10 point guard in the NBA this upcoming season. I guarantee he will be averaging close to 20PPG and 10APG. Once Aaron Brooks diva ass was traded away to the Suns, Lowry exploded as our clutch player, and one of our top offensive options.

We’ll have Courtney Lee starting at the 2. Courtney Lee deserves to start in the NBA. He’s a legitimate defender with a great shot. If the Bulls had him last year, they would have gone further into the playoffs.

Terrence Williams at the 3. This kid is talented as hell. He’s just really immature but he has all the physical attributes and basketball talent to be a premier scorer in this league. If Coach McHale can straighten him up, he will be a dangerous offensive player. Oh, and he’s basically LeBron James in NBA 2K11.

Patrick Patterson will be at the 4 assuming we start Pau at the center spot. Patterson has a future. A really good one. I see him as an Elton Brand/Zach Randolph type player, but with the work ethic of Shane Battier. He’s tough as hell, and will be a great compliment to Pau’s soft ass if they’re in the paint together.

Pau at the 5. Don’t really have to say anything about Pau. When given the ball and opportunity, he can tear up the paint on offense. As far as being tough, not so much. But it’s that offense and height in the paint we’ve been missing. With Yao gone, we’ve had Chuck Hayes at 6’6” as our starting center. I love Chuck Hayes, but he’s 6’6”.

The possibility of Nene signing with the Rockets is also much greater with us acquiring Gasol. With Nene and Pau in the paint… That’s a great duo right there. There’s also the huge possibility of Dalembert signing too. He showed he is still a great rim protector with the Kings last year.

I’m so excited right now. Free agency starts in less than 12 hours.

I’m gonna be up all night.

I miss Yao Ming.

But I can no longer keep my hopes up anymore. He’s done.

I want NEED the jerseys of these three men. The exact jerseys in the picture displayed above. They all represented a different era of Rockets’ basketball.
After this lockout is over… A new era begins.

FUCK. Screen capture of NBA 2K12… with Hakeem Olajuwon. I don’t know why his jersey number is 35 though.

If this team was healthy… they would have made some real noise in the playoffs.
Legit ass team in NBA 2K9 though.
*They also had Aaron Brooks, Carl Landry, and Dikembe Mutombo on the bench… I fucking miss this squad.
