Haha this is a good one, but Knick’s perceptions on this whole Jeremy Lin leaving New York situation is so wrong.
James Dolan never met with Jeremy. He told Jeremy to go explore the market to find out what his value was. Houston gave him an offer, and the Knicks declined to match. Around 5 million for the first two years (which is a very reasonable amount), and the 3rd year at around 15M, via the Arenas rule. There are ways to make changes to that third rule, like extend it out a few more years, etc, and have it still be a legal contract.
But the Knicks are just… stupid? Seems like they didn’t even try at all. They’ve given much worse contracts out in the past. And a LOT of them. Eddy Curry for example?
And then there’s Carmelo and JR Smith talking shit. JR is just mad he’s making 2 million. And Melo though? One of the league’s most ridiculous contracts saying Houston’s offer is ridiculous?
When you watch highlights and replays of the Linsanity run last season, you can see many of the Knick’s players genuinely enjoyed playing with Jeremy. Steve Novak, Tyson Chandler, Jared Jeffries, and of course Landry Fields. This was all while Melo & Amare were sitting out, and JR Smith wasn’t even with the team yet. Now all these good guys are gone, and the Knicks roster is filled with egos.
Good luck next season, Knicks fans. You guys are just a bunch of idiots as well.
