Fuck you David Stern.
Not only was this one of the most balanced blockbuster trades in recent memory which actually included a couple All-Stars and several borderline All-Stars (Kwame Brown for Pau Gasol in ‘08, Kevin Garnett for Al Jefferson in ‘07, Shaq for Lamar Odom, Caron Butler & Brian Grant in ‘04… Notice each of these teams won at least one title within 2 years of their respective trade), but you just fucked over every single team involved in this trade.
Yes, the Hornets are owned by the NBA. But… you gave them permission to work out a deal to trade Chris Paul. You let the Hornets GM Dell Demps have full control of this situation to come up with a trade that he was happy with.
The Hornets were going to let go of Chris Paul in exchange for Lamar Odom, Kevin Martin, Luis Scola, Goran Dragic and two first round draft picks.
Are you serious? That is a hell of a haul. 3 borderline All-Stars, an amazing backup PG, and two first rounders. Wow.
So if Chris Paul isn’t going to get traded, his contract is going to expire by the next off-season anyways. Chris Paul is going to be a free agent and he will sign with another team, leaving the Hornets with NOTHING AT ALL.
I’m pretty sure Odom, Martin, Scola, Dragic + Draft picks > Absolutely nothing
The LA Lakers would have lost Pau Gasol AND Lamar Odom in this trade for Chris Paul. By no means is this a huge gain for the Lakers. That’s their entire PF position right there. They would have had Derrick Caracter or Matt Barnes starting at the 4 spot. The only valid argument for this trade was that the Lakers would end up with the best player in the trade, while also shedding around $20 million in contracts to potentially sign Dwight Howard next season or to pull a trade for Bynum+filler.
And for the Rockets, I already stated in a previous post how I felt about that. Losing Dragic would have sucked, but it would have been worth it.
Now, Training Camp starts in a few hours… and it is going to be awkward as fuck for the players that were involved in this deal, knowing that their team was about to trade them away.
Great.
Fuck you David Stern.
You shitted on the off-season plans of these 3 teams, while also ruining the chemistry.
How do I know this trade was fair? Lakers gave up their entire 4 spot depth, and Rockets gave up their two most efficient scorers. Fans weren’t thrilled, but Stern blocking this trade from happening is so much worse for the NBA’s image than if the trade did go through.
Stern and Hunter need to step down.
This shit is ridiculous.
P.S.
Fuck Dan Gilbert. Get the fuck over LeBron.
